Managing Virtual Machines

Power on / Power off / Restart

In order to Power on / Power off / Restart virtual machine:

  1. Click the My Cloud tab and click vApps in the left pane.
  2. Right-click the selected vApp and select Open.
  3. Select the virtual machine and right-click on it.
  4. In the vApp VM menu you can perform such operations, as:
    1. Power on/off
    2. Suspend
    3. Restart
  5. You can also perform additional operations with the vApp VM Menu such as mounting CDs, Installing VMWare Tools etc.

Console access to the Virtual Machine

In order to open thevirtual machine console, follow this procedure:

  1. Click the My Cloud taband click vApps in the left pane
  2. Right-click the selected vApp and select Open.
  3. Select the virtual machine you wish to access and click it.

The console of your virtual machine will open.
With console access, you can work with your virtual machine as if you were connected directly with your I/O devices (display, keyboard, mouse etc.)

Password for the Operating System

To find the password for the first log in:

  1. Right-click on the virtual machine you want to access
  2. from the VM Menu select Properties
  3. click Guest OS Customization
  4. Your password is here.

This password is valid only until you change it. BENESTRA does not store passwords anywhere, so if you lose your password, you will not be able to access your Operating System.

Add/Remove a CPU, RAM and Storage

In order to change Virtual Machine settings, follow this procedure:

  1. Click the My Cloud tab and click vApps in the left pane.
  2. Right-click the selected vApp and select Open
  3. On the vVirtual Machines tab, select and right-click the virtual machine you wish to change.
  4. In order to perform any changes, the machine must be powered off.
  5. In order to power off the Virtual Machine, select the Power Off command from the vApp VM Menu.
  6. Right-click on the powered off Virtual Machine.
  7. From the vApp VM Menu select Properties.

A new window will pop up.

  1. Select the Hardware tab.
  2. You can now change the configuration of your virtual machine:
    1. Number of CPUs
    2. Memory
    3. Hard Disks
    4. Network Interfaces
  3. If you wish to change a particular parameter, just left-click on its value and select the new value from the drop-down list.
  4. In the case of storage/network, you may also wish to add a new disk or interface. If so, just click the Add button below the particular component and configure the newly added resource.

To accept changes, click OK.
